Rundt 1100 båter samlet inn på åtte måneder

På fem måneder samlet Kambo Marina inn rundt 200 båter bare i indre Oslofjord. Nå brukes plastposekroner til å samle inn forlatte fritidsbåter inn over hele landet, og over 1000 båtvrak er allerede fjernet.

Just before summer, the Norwegian Retailers' Environment Fund decided to finance a national scheme for collecting abandoned leisure boats. So far this year, around 1100 leisure boats have been collected.

- The problem with abandoned boats often falls between two stools. In some places, the municipality takes on the task, but unfortunately, they often just remain there. Therefore, we see the benefit of a national scheme to remove abandoned leisure boats, which we are now financing, says Cecilie Lind, CEO of the Norwegian Retailers' Environment Fund.

De fleste båtene som samles inn er i for dårlig stand til å kunne føres på sjøen. Det gjør jobben med å frakte og gjenvinne båten svært ressurskrevende for eier.

- Det kan koste veldig mye å få fraktet en båt som ikke lenger kan sjøsettes til forsvarlig avhending. Samtidig ender forlatte fritidsbåter som et stort og tilnærmet evigvarende miljøproblem. Dagens båter består av veldig mye plast som kan ende som mikroplast, i tillegg inneholder de ofte elektronikk, drivstoffrester og kjemikalier. Ingenting av dette vil vi ha i naturen, sier Lind.

Seeking Tips from the Public

- In 2022, we have established partnerships with several new operators cleaning up leisure boats in various parts of the country. This means we now have a nationwide scheme, continues Lind.

One of the collaborations is with the Norwegian Mountain Guardians, which will clean up abandoned boats along mountain lakes in Innlandet. In Innlandet, 2022 will primarily be used to map the extent of abandoned boats in the mountains.

- Both in Innlandet and the rest of the country, we need the public's help to locate the boats. If you see a derelict boat while out on a hike, we hope you register it on ryddenorge.no, where you will find a dedicated category for derelict boats. This way, you can help us completely remove abandoned leisure boats from islands, beaches, docks, and skerries, concludes Lind.
