Tildeler over 25 millioner kroner til å rydde og stoppe plastforsøpling

Handelens Miljøfond tildeler nye 25 millioner kroner til kampen for å løse miljøproblemene knyttet til plast. Ryddeprosjekter og tiltak som bidrar til å hindre plastforsøpling har fått mest.

- We received 241 applications totaling 248 million NOK. We see great interest and many good ideas to solve the environmental problems of plastics. It is evident that the Norwegian Retailers' Environment Fund, being a new environmental fund, is coming at an important time, says Rasmus Hansson, CEO of the Norwegian Retailers' Environment Fund.

- More knowledge, better technology, and new ways of doing things are an absolute prerequisite for ensuring that plastic is not an environmental problem in the future. Now we are initiating many new contributions to that, says Hansson.

Driving force for cleanup and prevention of plastic pollution

The Norwegian Retailers' Environment Fund has decided to allocate over 25 million NOK to initiatives aimed at reducing plastic litter and increasing plastic recycling. The projects receiving funds span the entire country, from Finnmark in the north to Agder in the south, and cover everything from cleanup, research, awareness work, business development, to school and education.

Most funds are granted for the cleanup of plastic litter, followed by awareness work and business development that aim to reduce plastic consumption and stop plastic littering in nature. Examples of projects now receiving support include:

Hold Norge Rent which organizes professional cleanup in vulnerable nesting areas before the birds migrate home.
Kambo Marina AS which will clean old plastic boats throughout the Inner Oslofjord.
Woodrock Group AS which will produce a prototype for container flooring made from recycled plastic from the aquaculture industry.
Nordic Screens AS which will build a video universe about plastics, the environment, and sustainability targeted at the 15-25 age group.

- We have a huge task ahead of us to solve the environmental problems related to plastics, says Hansson.

- We must clean up all the plastic waste that is already out in nature. We must stop all new plastic pollution. We must halt the leakage of microplastics, and above all, the plastic we use must become recyclable and be recycled. All this is entirely possible, but as with all environmental work: We must want it, and the Norwegian Retailers' Environment Fund does, says Hansson.

Alongside this allocation, the Norwegian Retailers' Environment Fund will soon allocate funds to technology and innovation projects, as well as international projects. The Environment Fund will continue to develop more strategic projects moving forward that are important for work on plastics and the environment.

- Vi fikk 241 søknader på totalt 248 millioner kroner. Vi ser stor interesse og mange gode ideer til å løse plastens miljøproblemer. Det er tydelig at Handelens Miljøfond, som er et nytt miljøfond, kommer på et viktig tidspunkt, sier Rasmus Hansson, daglig leder i Handelens Miljøfond.

- Mer kunnskap, bedre teknologi og nye måter å gjøre ting på er en absolutt forutsetning for å sørge for at plast ikke er et miljøproblem i framtiden. Nå får vi i gang mange nye bidrag til det, sier Hansson.

Pådriver til rydding og stopp av plastforsøpling

Handelens Miljøfond har besluttet å tildele over 25 millioner kroner til tiltak som skal bidra til å redusere plastforsøpling og øke plastgjenvinning. Prosjektene som får midler spenner over hele landet, fra Finnmark i nord til Agder i sør, og dekker alt fra rydding, forskning, holdningsskapende arbeid, næringsutvikling, og skole og undervisning.

Mest er gitt til rydding av plastforsøpling, etterfulgt av holdningsskapende arbeid og næringsutvikling som skal bidra til å redusere forbruket av plast og stoppe plastforsøpling i naturen. Eksempler på prosjekter som nå får støtte er:

Hold Norge Rent som arrangerer profesjonell rydding i sårbare hekkeområder før fuglene trekker hjemover.
Kambo Marina AS som skal rydde gamle plastbåter i hele Indre Oslofjord.
Woodrock Group AS som skal produsere prototype på gulv til containere laget av gjenvunnet plast fra havbruksnæringen.
Nordic Screens AS som skal bygge videounivers om plast, miljø og bærekraft rettet mot målgruppen 15-25 år.

- Vi har en diger jobb foran oss for å løse miljøproblemene knyttet til plast, sier Hansson.

- Vi må rydde vekk alt plastsøppelet som allrede ligger ute i naturen. Vi må stanse all ny plastforsøpling. Vi må stanse lekkasjene av mikroplast, og framfor alt må plasten vi bruker bli resirkulerbar og bli resirkulert. Alt dette er fullt mulig, men som med alle miljøjobber: Vi må ville det, og Handelens Miljøfond vil, sier Hansson.

Ved siden av denne tildelingen vil Handelens Miljøfond om kort tid tildele midler til teknologi- og innovasjonsprosjekter, samt internasjonale prosjekter. Miljøfondet kommer til å utvikle flere strategiske prosjekter fremover som er viktige for arbeidet med plast og miljø.
