In a recent report by Systemiq in close collaboration with Norwegian knowledge environments and experts and financed by the Norwegian Retailers' Environment Fund, it is revealed that Norwegian plastic use is currently only 22 percent circular, but it is possible to increase circularity to 70% by 2040 if the right measures are implemented.

– The level of ambition must be significantly raised, and we want to contribute to accelerating the development. Therefore, we are announcing 50 million NOK for projects that focus on making plastics circular, whether it is through smart design and increased lifespan, repair and reuse, substitution, new business models, or other means contributing to greater circularity, says Cecilie Lind, CEO of the Norwegian Retailers' Environment Fund.

The application deadline is September 1, so potential applicants should have ample time to put wise thoughts on paper and find relevant partners for their projects.

– We hope potential applicants make good use of the time and look forward to hearing from both technologists, researchers, the plastics industry, and recyclers. It is as simple as this – can your business bring us closer to a circular plastics economy? Then you should apply for funding from us, concludes Lind.

The call for applications targets projects that contribute to:

  • Repair and reuse of products

  • Reduced use of plastics with smart design and/or extended product lifespan

  • New business models that facilitate sharing and/or ensure reuse of products and packaging

  • Substitution: Replacing plastics with alternative materials

  • Increased use of recycled plastics

  • Technological development: tracking and labeling, sorting and recycling technology

  • Recycling in closed loops

Application deadline: 1 September

Total budget: 50 million
