This is what we spent money on in 2024.
In 2024, we worked purposefully to cut plastic bag consumption and reduced usage by nearly 190 million plastic carrier bags compared to the previous year. At the same time, we have financed a total of 792 new projects and reached several important milestones in our environmental work.

A Year of Progress
2024 has been a year filled with significant breakthroughs for the Norwegian Retailers' Environment Fund. In May, the fee was raised from 2 to 3 kroner, leading to a further reduction in the use of plastic carrier bags among Norwegian consumers.

Environmental Efforts with Broad Impact
One of the year's major highlights occurred when the Cleanup Norway in Time program – the world's largest professional cleanup action funded by the Norwegian Retailers' Environment Fund – achieved its goal of cleaning 40 percent of Norway's outer coastline. Additionally, we launched two significant calls for applications aimed at private entities in the cleanup work. An example is The Community Plastics cleanup, where over 25,000 children and young people received support to clean their local areas of plastic waste – an initiative that equalizes economic disparities, changes attitudes, and cleans up nature. We also contributed to a comprehensive upgrade of Norwegian artificial turf pitches to reduce the spread of rubber granulate into nature.
In addition, we have worked purposefully with plastics in packaging and textiles, as well as in the construction and aquaculture industries. This effort has contributed to both reduced plastic usage and increased material recycling in sectors with high plastic consumption.
